The Old School art residency was found in 2010 in Gorna Lipnitsa village, Bulgaria. The building of the residency was a school in the past. The residency provides workspace for the participating artists – 6 indoor workshops and photo studio, open air space – the yard of the school, movie and concert salon. We provide accommodation places for participants – 3 rooms in the ex-kindergarten and guest houses in the village, as well.
From 2010 to 2018 the residency was held once a year – for 10 days during August. In 2019 the residency will be open to accept artists for longer sessions – from May to September.
We choose the artists by jury. The artists could apply for the following disciplines: Painting, Performance, Land-art, Photography, Visual arts and installations, Wall-painting, Music, Short films.
Every year we organize exhibitions to present the works created by the participating artists. We believe that the promotion of the works is an essential part of the residency activities.
In 2010-2022 the residency has accepted more than 120 artists from 25 countries and the number of applications are over 750.
